In order to succeed, you must focus not on past grievances but on future visions..

'There are 2 things to know in business.' the father tells his children quietly. 'The first thing is if you promise it by Thursday, you better deliver it by Thursday.'

One of his children looks up at the wise old man and asks innocently, 'Father, what is the 2nd thing?'

'NEVER PROMISE IT BY THURSDAY!' exclaims the father.

How many people do you know that will promise you things, say they will get involved and never deliver?

How many people do you know when the time comes to take action cannot be found?

How many people do you know blame others when things go wrong?

The answer is far too many. There are many people that I like as people but I do not believe a single promise that they make because I know they are not going to deliver. How does that affect my business relation with them? The answer is obvious.

Leadership is the essence of both business and life. People are attracted to leaders, whether it is the leaders in their field or the leaders they admire. What is it that makes people leaders? It is not about great speeches. Many leaders say nothing because they don't have to. They let their actions talk.

Are you a leader? The answer is, you can be one if you want to be one. It is not something that we are born with. It is something that we can develop. Here are 6 ways that you can help further your own leadership abilities:

1. Take the initiative. If you see something that needs to be done or something that can be fixed, help to fix it. Do not be afraid to challenge yourself and stretch your limits.

2. Create options and solutions. Everybody knows what cannot be done, a leader finds what can! Leadership is fundamentally about focusing on solutions and not problems.

3. Understand what the real obstacles are. Our real obstacles are not the things we cannot control like time and money. They are the things that we can control like preconceived ideas (which prevent growth and education), fear (which caused panic), and complacency (which prevented infection control).

4. Support others. The one defining characteristic of great leaders is that they help to create other leaders. The idea of such theories as servant leadership is that the role of the leader is to serve others and help set them up for success.

5. Never stop learning. Leadership is about growth. Lifelong learning is the hallmark of a great leader.
6. Walk the talk. Remember that leadership is not about what you say, it is about you do. We respect others who respect us and likewise will follow somebody who will follow us.
